Mt Spa Cross Country
The weather held out for a successful Mt Spa Cross Country which was held at the Manaia Domain on Thursday 13th September. The best runners from Matapu, Auroa, Rahotu, Kaponga, Manaia, St Josephs and Opunake Primary School joined together to participate in this competitive event. St Joseph's did a fantastic job - we took 27 students to the event! A huge thank you to all the parents/caregivers who volunteered to transport the children to and from the event. A special congratulations to Toby O’Rorke (2nd), Charlie Carr (2nd) Melah Sinclair (4th), Jerram Sinclair (5th), Kiarn Robins (6th), Ryder Ratahi (8th), Crystal Jordan (10th), CrisJohn Abad (11th), Ella Griggs (14th) and Jacob Foley (15th). Cade Carr also placed 5th overall in the under 9 boys race. This is an excellent achievement for Cade as he is only 8 years old. Super running from everyone!
On Wednesday 12th September the Lynskey/Dravitski shield was brought back after a few years of absence. This was competed between Auroa School and St Joseph’s in netball and rugby. It was a sunny day with 2 positive competitive games played in high spirits with a celebration shared lunch afterwards. Auroa retained the shield after having 2 impressive wins in both the netball and the rugby. A huge thank you to the coaches and parents for their support with organisation of the day. We had a big spread of delicious food to offer. Also a special mention to Mr John Lynskey who was one of the original founders of the shield who kindly donated $100 towards prizes for the kids. This was a kind gesture and we as a school were truly grateful for this donation.
Netball and Basketball Thank you Assembly and lunch.
On Thursday 2nd August we celebrated our Basketball and Netball teams who participated in the winter leagues throughout Terms 1 and 2. A big thanks must go to all of the parents who coached and managed the teams. We are so grateful for your ongoing support. Thank you also to Mr Murfitt who spent a lot of time organising the teams and doing all the paperwork side of things. Our kids represented our school with pride during their games and are a credit to our school and their families. Well done St Joes.
Fun Ferns Netball Years 0-2
Wednesday afternoons sees the court at the Sandford's Event Centre jam packed with budding young netball players learning the skills needed to play the great game of netball.
The improvement made over the last few weeks has been massive. Thanks to the parents who are helping out with these little people. Your contribution is much appreciated!
It's a real joy to watch children actively passing the ball to each other - looking for the best option rather than just passing to their friends! Celebrating with each other, and the other team, was the icing on the cake! Well done team!
Mt Spa Swimming Sports 2018
On Friday 23rd March 18 of our top swimmers competed in the annual Mt Spa Swimming Sports event. It was a closely contested event, with our students putting in a massive effort to place 2nd overall. Every student from our school that competed, ended up placing in at least 1 event. A highlight of the day was the very competitive relay, where St Joseph's placed 3rd, in what was an impressive display of freestyle swimming. Well done to all students involved, you should be incredibly proud of your achievements. A huge thank you to those parents who helped out on the day! It really made for an enjoyable and smoothly run event.
